A Teenager’s Guide: Convincing Your Parents

Problem

My mom and I have faced many challenges with each other throughout my life with shorts. Now I know what you're thinking “Why and how are you guys going against each other by the problem of when to wear shorts”. I know, but this is a challenge that we face together, and it is not a new challenge that we just started facing. I have had this challenge with her for a long time now, and she still won’t just say yes to me wearing the shorts. You see, I like to wear shorts in weather above 70 degrees Fahrenheit and above. Even when the season is fall, and the month is October and November. She claims that it is too cold and that the month is November. From one side I understand where she is coming from, but that is only 1% of it. The rest of the 99% believe that I should be able to wear shorts even if it is November. Now if it was December, I would be able to understand her reasoning. She also made it a rule, or as we know it “a law” that I am allowed to wear shorts in weather 70 degrees and above. So if she doesn’t follow the law that she made, do I need to?  Plus, unless she is a judge or lawyer in our government, then she needs to be following the law. Hence the phrase “No one is above the law, not even the law”.

 It’s 70 DEGREES 🥵

It is in the 70’s, the perfect temperature for both being active and wearing active clothes. I do understand that it is November and that this month brings some chill, it is in the 70’s, which is not cold. The weather is pretty warm for this time of the year. According to the Quora website, temperatures below 50 degrees would be considered too cold for shorts. According to Akron’s Children, Dr. Levine states “The safety of wearing shorts in the winter depends on what the temperature and wind-chill is outside,” said Dr. Levine. “When it starts to fall below 40 degrees, and worse, below freezing temperatures, anyone will be at risk for developing things like frostbite or hypothermia.” Weather experts also state “This is the best weather for shorts and a light jacket(light clothing). You see, as someone who loves the cold, you may not know where I am coming from. That is why I  gave you three lists of who said what. Trick question, when was the last time you saw someone wearing big boots and a

winter jacket outside walking in 70-degree weather. I know most people would say never, but those haters out there would say yesterday. I know those haters didn’t see someone wearing those clothes though, they are just saying that to hate on you.

My Reasons

One of my biggest reasons is that shorts provide better mobility. It allows me to perform my best activities(even including walking). In general, it allows for greater movement. I would sweat less because more of my body is receiving fresh air and can breathe. It also provides better circulation for the legs and the body. Wearing shorts has many benefits, such as

  • Maintaining your body temperature

  • It improves mobility and movement

  • It can boost mood and health

  • Wearing shorts helps create better skin, due to the fact when the sun beams on your legs, it gives you vitamin D to your skin,

  • It also calms inflammation and improves cell turnover

  • Increases your energy

The Month November

The month of November is best known for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is known for its celebration, giving thanks, and doing exceptionally kind acts to others. It is also known for its non-wet weather. It’s also known for its beautiful breeze and chill.     I do understand that November is the month right before December and that you may associate it with being cold and chilly because it is close to the end of fall, going into winter. It is not like the whole month of November will be over 70 degrees, I will be wearing pants. I promise I will help you stuff ingredients inside the turkey and make sure it doesn’t run away. Can’t we just forget that this month is November, and pretend the month is June? Plus, Gobble gobble.

Both sides

You see the month of November is typically cold and would not be the best weather for shorts. It is completely inappropriate for you to be wearing shorts at this time of the year. Even though it may be warm outside, it won’t be like that in the morning. Well, you guys drive us to school and the car is nice and warm. We also don’t have recess in high school, so we stay in school the whole day and don’t leave the building until the bell rings. So we would stay warm inside and not get cold. Well, if you are in the building for so long and don’t go outside during the day, then why would you need to wear shorts? Shorts provide easy comfort and better mobility. They also help my brain think better. In the gym, when we go outside and run, I would get less sweaty, because more of my body can breathe. Son, you’re right, you can wear shorts whenever you want as long as it is not December, January, February, or March. Even if it is 70 degrees or higher, you will still not be allowed to wear shorts during those 4 months. But any other month, so long as it is over 70 degrees, you can wear shorts.

Conclusion (My Personal Opinion)

Using all this data, I believe I should be able to wear shorts in weather 70 degrees and above. Ultimately is a smarter and healthier choice when it comes to deciding what to wear when the weather is above 70 degrees. It results in numerous benefits from greater movement,  to healthier skin, to improving mental health. While the weather may be chilly, wearing shorts would help boost my energy throughout the school day and improve my mood during the school day. I would be more comfortable, which would help me focus, instead of being distracted by my discomfortness. You allowing me to make the right choice when to wear shorts in 70-degree weather no matter the month, would help me develop my independence.
